ASJA Girls secures semis spot in Schools Volleyball

ASJA Girls College (San Fernando) secured the automatic semifinal spot in the Girls Open Division of the T&T Secondary Schools Volleyball League (SSVL) when they won Group A of their round-robin series at the Southern Regional Indoor Sports Arena in Pleasantville on Friday (January 30). This victory came after ASJA Girls won the clash of unbeaten teams against St Joseph’s Convent (St Joseph) in three closely fought sets, 28-26, 23-25, 15-12, following their earlier win against St George’s College in another three-set battle, 25-14, 21-25, 15-10, which concluded their day with four wins from as many matches. St Joseph’s Convent (St Joseph) had earlier won by default from San Fernando Central Secondary, while Maple Leaf International crushed St George’s College 25-9, 25-2 in the other match on the day. When they began play on Monday, January 26, at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Tacarigua ASJA Girls College defeated San Fernando Central Secondary 25-17, 25-16 and Maple Leaf International School 25-6, 25-18, while St Joseph’s Convent (St Joseph) battled past Maple Leaf International School 23-25, 25-22, 15-11 and St George’s College, 25-1, 25-17. In the two other matches in Group A, St George’s College won by default against the late-arriving San Fernando Central while the latter was at full strength for their 13-25, 26-24, 6-15 loss to Maple Leaf. Last month, St Joseph’s Convent (Port-of-Spain) secured the lone automatic spot from Group B in the semifinals after ending their three-team round-robin series unbeaten at Tacarigua with wins over Tunapuna Secondary School 25-14, 25-7 and International School of Port-of-Spain (ISPS) 25-19, 25-23 to secure their spot in the national semifinal carded for the National Cycling Centre in Balmain, Couva, on Tuesday, February 3, from 1 pm. ISPS ended in second spot after winning 25-10, 25-8 over Tunapuna Secondary in the other match in the group, with both teams advancing to the quarterfinals, carded for Sunday (February 1) at Aranguez North Secondary.
