Caribbean Beachfood Festival to serve up cuisine, culture and sustainability

2026-03-28 - 02:04

Courts, a brand of the Unicomer Group, has announced its title sponsorship of the Caribbean Beachfood Festival 2026, an initiative celebrating Caribbean culinary creativity while promoting sustainability and food security. The announcement was made during a recent media launch at the Courts Megastore in Barataria, where representatives of the festival’s three key partners—Banwari Experience Limited, The University of the West Indies (UWI) Faculty of Food and Agriculture, and Courts—outlined plans for the upcoming conference and festival. Guests at the launch were treated to a live culinary demonstration and tasting by the festival’s executive chef, Nigel Walcott, offering a preview of the event’s gastronomic experience. The Caribbean Beachfood Festival will be held on April 4 at the International Waterfront Centre, Port-of-Spain, from 4 pm to midnight. Courts will serve as the event’s sole furniture and appliance partner. The festival will feature food exhibitions, a fashion show, an artisan market and live performances from leading acts. Multi-award-winning chef Adrian Cumberbatch and other top Caribbean chefs will present more than 40 dishes from ten Caribbean countries. The event will also include a fashion show featuring local designers Arvanelle Richards and Dominique La Roche under the stewardship of Richard Young. Tickets are priced at $1,000 for VIP and $450 for general admission. VIP patrons will receive a premium menu, open bar and access to a Courts-sponsored VIP lounge. According to Unicomer’s Director of Commercial, Nicole Lum Kin, the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen Caribbean communities and industries. “This partnership represents alignment on many fronts for us,” she said. “The conference and festival place a deep emphasis on sustainability, entrepreneurship, cultural pride and the celebration of Caribbean creativity—themes that resonate strongly with the work we seek to do in our communities.” Lum Kin also noted that Courts’ participation will bring together several of its brands to enhance the festival experience. Courts and Courts Business Solutions will provide lounge furniture and kitchen appliances, while Courts Optical will collaborate with local designers as part of the fashion show. Managing Director of Banwari Experience Limited, Andrew Welch, described Courts as a natural partner for the event. “When we sought a partner for this journey, we looked for a brand that understood the Caribbean home,” he said. “Courts has been at the heart of Caribbean homes for decades. By joining us, they are helping us bring that same sense of quality and innovation to the International Waterfront.” Welch added that the festival goes beyond entertainment, serving as a platform for regional development and entrepreneurship. It will also address food security while functioning as a “live trade show” for local small and medium-sized enterprises. The festival forms part of a two-part initiative beginning with the Food and Nutrition Security and Sustainable Tourism Conference, which takes place on March 31 and April 1 at UWI. Dean of the Faculty of Food and Agriculture, Mark Wuddivira, described the conference as a critical step toward strengthening the region’s food systems and tourism sector. “This conference is a national and regional imperative that reflects our commitment to building a future where our food is secure, our culture is celebrated, and our tourism industry contributes to sustainable development,” he said. Courts said it remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote sustainability, cultural expression and community engagement.
