Man shot and killed outside Bar in Sangre Grande

Ralph Banwarie A man was shot and killed outside a bar in Sangre Grande this morning. The man has been identified as Shaquille Layne of North Eastern Settlement, Sangre Grande. Reports indicate that around 2:40 am, Layne was liming at a bar in Boodooville when he had an altercation with another man and struck him on the head with a bottle. He was subsequently put out of the bar but remained outside. The other man left the bar and returned armed with a gun, opening fire on Layne. He was shot about the body and died at the scene. Police in Sangre Grande were informed and responded. Officers of the Arouca Homicide Bureau, Region 2, also attended. The body was viewed by a District Medical Officer and removed to the Sangre Grande Hospital mortuary, pending a post-mortem at the Forensic Science Centre on Monday. The scene was processed by CSI officers, and several spent 9mm shells were recovered. Investigations are continuing. A senior police officer said shootings will not stop as there are too many illegal guns in the hands of criminals.
