Morang, Stafford shine at Tots & Tumblers Invitational

Alora Morang and Yandy Stafford set the standard for excellence when the Tots & Tumblers Gymnastic Club hosted its annual invitational at the Woodbrook Youth Facility in Port-of-Spain from March 13-15. Morang, representing the Olympia Wolfpack Gymnastics Academy (OWGA), captured the prestigious Level 10 All-Around title in a competition which featured over 310 female athletes. ​The “Optional” categories saw a dominant showing by the host club, Tots & Tumblers (TTG). Stafford secured the Level 9 All-Around title with a score of 37.150, while Gabriella Christopher (35.975) took the top spot for Level 8. The Level 7 crown went to Alissa Mathias (38.175), followed by Level 6 champion Kaydence Fortune (38.200). ​The progression of talent continued through the “Compulsory” ranks, where precision and perfect scores became the theme of the weekend. ​The judging panel, comprised of four USA Gymnastics officials from Pennsylvania, awarded an unprecedented number of “Perfect 10.0” scores. Jennifer Zheng (OWGA) shone in the Pre-Competitive Junior division, earning 10.0s on vault, bars, and beam. Other perfect marks were achieved by Kimora Duncan of Academic Flippers (ACF) on bars and floor, Halle-Marie Fraser (Lees Gymnastics Club) on bars and beam, and Savannah Thomson (TTG) on beam. ​In the team standings, Tots & Tumblers swept the majority of the titles, including Levels 1 (Jr), 2, 4, 6, 7, and 9. Academic Flippers showed their strength in the Level 1 (Sr), Level 3, and Pre-Com Senior categories, while OWGA took home the Pre-Competitive Junior team trophy. ​The three-day event featured female athletes ranging from ages four to 20, representing 11 local clubs and one international club, Agisapema, from the Dominican Republic. The other clubs participating were Golden Stars Gymnastics Academy (GSGA), House for Gymnastics (HFG), Lambert School of Dance Gymnastics Club (LSDGC), Mucurapo Artistic Achievers (MAA), St Andrew’s School Gymnastic Club (SAGC) and Thema Williams Athletic Academy (TWAA). ​The three-day event opened with a feature address by Sonja Johnson, vice president of the T&T Olympic Committee. Johnson highlighted the vital importance of sport in the lives of young women, a message that resonated with the all-female competitive line-up.
