Police officer killed crossing highway near Maloney

RALPH BANWARIE GML Correspondent A police officer has died after he was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the Churchill Roosevelt Highway near the Maloney traffic lights this morning. Police said the victim has been identified as Police Constable Boochan, who was last assigned to the Piarco Police Station and was reportedly on vacation leave. The incident occurred around 6:30 am on Thursday when Boochan was crossing in the vicinity of the Maloney traffic lights and came into contact with a Subaru driven by a fellow officer attached to the Highway Patrol unit. He died at the scene. [Image taken from video circulating in social media] A District Medical Officer visited and ordered the removal of the body to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope for a post-mortem. Maloney police are continuing enquiries. The accident caused a major traffic pile-up along the highway.
