Police officer stabbed by drunk pensioner

JENSEN LA VENDE Senior Reporter A police officer was among two people stabbed by an intoxicated pensioner on Saturday night. Police reported that WPC Lewis, attached to the Port of Spain Task Force, was stabbed in the chest by a male relative. According to police, around 6.30 pm, Lewis approached the attacker and warned him about his drunken, obscene outbursts. During the confrontation, the 75-year-old man stabbed her once on the left side of her chest. When her friend, Roger Chattergoonsingh, intervened, the attacker also stabbed him once in the abdomen. Officers from the Cunupia Police Station responded and arrested the suspect. Both victims were taken for medical attention. Lewis was taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility, while Chattergoonsingh was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex. The attacker also was taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility for treatment. Constable Backan is continuing enquiries.
