Former World Indoor champion Jereem Richards began his quest for another podium finish with a steady performance in the morning heats at the Championships in Toruń, Poland, on Friday. Competing in heat one of the men’s 400 metres, Richards finished second in a time of 46.10 seconds, finishing just behind Brazil’s Matheus Lima (46.09). His tactical run was more than enough to comfortably secure his spot in the semifinals. While he did not advance to the next round, young standout Nathan Cumberbatch made history by rewriting the T&T record books. Competing in heat four of the men’s 800m, Cumberbatch placed fourth in a time of 1:46.95. This performance sets a new national indoor record, marking him as the fastest T&T athlete ever over the indoor 800m distance despite the incredibly tough competition in the field. More to come.
