Several held; firearms seized in south-west exercise

A coordinated anti-crime exercise in the south-west has led to several arrests and the seizure of firearms and ammunition. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service carried out “Operation Chopper” between 10 am and 10 pm on Sunday, March 22, 2026, in the Point Fortin and Guapo districts. Acting under Legal Notice No. 40 of the Emergency Powers Regulations, 2026, officers conducted targeted searches at multiple locations, focusing on persons of interest. During the exercise, police seized one shotgun with seven 12-gauge cartridges and also found two rounds of 9mm ammunition. Officers arrested two individuals in connection with possession of the firearm and ammunition, while they dealt with another person for possession of ammunition. Senior Superintendent Thompson spearheaded and supervised the operation, with coordination from Superintendent Jaggernauth, ASP Forbes and ASP Corrie. Officers from the South Western Division Task Force, both East and West, the South Western Division Gang Unit, Point Fortin CID, Siparia CID and the K9 Unit took part in the exercise.
