Student held after stealing alcohol from neighbour’s house

A student from a secondary school in Tunapuna was arrested by police on Friday, after he broke into a neighbour’s house and stole a quantity of alcohol and jewellery. The 17-year-old was held after officers viewed the video footage recorded on the victim’s home security system. Police said the victim, aged 43, of Claxton Bay, works as a Nursing Assistant at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope. The woman left for work around 5.40 am on January 30 and was alerted via a text on her phone around 7 am that an intruder had entered the home. Rushing home after alerting the police, the woman arrived around 8.40 am, and upon checking, found a bathroom window on the southern side of the property, pried open. She later discovered a quantity of jewellery and alcohol, missing. After viewing the CCTV footage, officers carried out a search for the suspect, who was found nearby, with the stolen items in his possession. He was arrested and taken to the Couva Police Station pending further enquiries. —ALP
